Dave, We live in a society that has not come into agreement that this is a serious concern and something else needs to be done.
But, I have seen several young people like yourself make a smooth transfer from private to public schools. The most important thing is to be who you are, use a smile and keep your focus. Maybe you could join into school activities as school newspaper or some other interest. Other kids like yourself will find you interesting and soon you'll have a group of your own, a group that may even have agreed with each other that they don't want sex, drugs, etc. in their own lives under these circumstances or at this time. If you have trouble be sure to let your folks know about it right away.

The problem with public schools vs. most private schools is that you get a crappy education and you will pay for it later.

Even if there are sex, drugs and alcohol anywhere you might be, there is always the option of saying 'no'. Not that it's easy, or popular sometimes, but you don't have to put yourself in the situation to have to make these decisions. It really does have far more to do with how you handle yourself then it does with the availability of opportunity.

Best of luck... But if I had to do it over again I would have gone to a private school where they actually teach you things... not just babysit...

I am in The 9th grade. I transferred from a private (christian) middle school to a public high school and love it. I do really believe though that it depends on the person. Yea we got sex, drugs, and alcohol at my new school. I like it, I get good grades and have lots and lots of new friends. It was very different but I like it much more.

If you have the opportunity to go to private school don't throw it away on a public education. Not only are you being taught more and will have a better chance at a great college you also have more safety. Your friends are right... sex, drugs and alcohol, and gang activity are prevalent in public schools today. You would also most likely have to deal with metal detectors at the doors and lock downs. Stay where you are and be thankful you can go to a private school. Good Luck!!

At my middle school (was public) there was a lot of fights but almost everyone one was a virgin and not too many people were on drugs and alcohol, I never got into any of those things though you just gotta make friends with the right people.

I'mnot in school any more. When I was in school there was always kids that were having sex, doing drugs, and drinking. This usually does happen on school grounds but every once in a while you will hear about somebody that had drugs on them maybe in selling them on school property. It all depends on who you become friends with. I went from publis school to private school boy was that tough. What an eye opener.

im pretty sure you'll live...there isnt as much as the media and movies make it out to be, just stay away from it and youll be fine...its the same everywhere, youre just all at an age where you dont really know where you stand in life and everything seems a little scary. but enjoy it, i loved growing up in a public school system.
