I wouldn't pack it in a suitcase. I would get a laptop carrying bag and use it as your carry-on.

Get one of those bags that you can place a laptop in. You will have to take it out of the bag when you go to security, but it will be much better than getting your laptop stolen or damaged if you check it in.

I always carry mine in an over-the-shoulder computer bag. Do NOT check it. That's just asking for it to be stolen or broken.
