Freckles are small dark spots on your skin. Birthmarks are larger dark (or sometimes light) patches of skin. If they've been there since birth, they're probably harmless, but it doesn't hurt to ask your doctor or dermatologist.

Any "dark skinned person," ranging from a medium brown to a light yellow, is considered "black." None of these colors are black either, but that's how America refers to them. No matter what the color of someones skin, you shouldn't dwell on calling them by the right "shade"--just use their name. :]

If you mean a bluish purple mark it's a "Mongolian" spot. Occurs in Asian and Hispanic babies most and disappears on its own in a few months.
