Brand new greyhound owner for 2 hours now, and my cute girl is going to town on her stuffies. I've never had a dog before, and I've done reading on greyhounds and asked lots of questions-but this is one I hadn't thought about! Do they shake their heads back and forth with a stuffie in their mouth (looks like she's trying to rip it to shreds!) because they are having fun, or is it because she's upset? I know she's nervous (she's got dandruff, but I was told that would subside as she gets used to me and her new home) I'm afraid the pink pig toy won't make it through the night! :) I guess I just don't know if she's chewing all over it to tear it up or to find the squeaker.
Thanks,
Nervous new owner.

Thanks to everyone's response-as I and some of you suspeted, poor pink pig....she's a goner. :) She didn't shred it, but the squeaker is broken! She seems to like the other stuffies I got her. Some friends came for burgers and while we ate in the kitchen, I gated her in the room right next to us and gave her the kong with some peanut butter. She seemed to have fun with that too. Thanks for all of your responses-I feel much better now! :)

Greyhounds have a very strong hunting drive..Your dog has caught the culprit and is now teaching it a lesson! lol...It is absolutely normal play for a hound..I bred sighthounds too, and no stuffed animals can remain in one piece for very long..However, they do love chewtoys that are indestructible...I agree, piggy isn't apt to make it through the night...poor piggy...
I hope you have many years of the joy that you deserve for rescuing a greyhound!

Oh my gosh, congratulations! She is having fun. They have an instinct to shake those stuffed animals, as if it were a real one and they were knocking it out before giving it to you!.lol, She's not nervous, she's happy. Good job!

Incidently, you can search the pet stores and online, there are some newer dog toys that are very durable, but I am constantly throwing out toys and buying new ones.

Well, I've known a couple of dogs that like to "kill" their stuffies... and yeah, they were after the squeaker. A lab and a cocker... it could be that the squeaky annoys them... you might try another type of toy... a "Kong" is great, you can stuff it with treats and they'll be after it for hours, and it's indestructable!

she's just playing obviously very happy if the pig is a stuffed pig u may want to buy her rubber toys in the future if she destoys this one. make sure she gets lots of running exercise so she can wear herself out and maybe not take it out on her toys. remember running is what greyhounds do best.

I have a greyhound, and this is completely normal behaviour - she's having fun!! They love stuffies, mine always tries to steal my kids ones! If she destroys that one, buy her another - greyhounds love to have lots of stuffies all for themselves - they like to take them into their bed and build up a collection - very cute behaviour indeed! I would recommend the forum for greyhound owners if you have any other qs - greytalk. forum/greytalk.com
Sounds like your baby is settling in really well!

Don't be nervous. Your dog is really happy and will not be able to tell you! Just keep up with the "communication" petting and playing with toys. Your dog will be more interested in yummy food and sleep when tired.

She is just playing after she chews it up just have a new toy ready. Also get her a Kong she will not be able to chew that up. It is actually really good she is playing like that already. It also shows she is very comfortable with you. Enjoy

It's a regular thing. All dogs do it. They do that because that is a way their ancestors hunted. They'd shake the prey violently to break their necks. Although, now, dogs just do it to play.
