Do not boil broccoli! You should steam it! Now the steaming time depends on if you have fresh or frozen broccoli. It will get very green and you will be able to stick a fork in the stem easily when done.

I've eaten boiled broccoli and from that point on I realized boiling is not the way to go. I have steamed broccoli, but the best way I have found to cook it is in the microwave. Depending upon the amount you are preparing the time needed will vary. I usually clean and remove any hard or stringy parts from the stalks after separating the head into individual florets. I also cut the stalk pieces into chunks. After this, I use a pyrex bowl and I put pats of butter on top of the broccoli(not too much butter). I normally cook a full 2 quart bowl and it usually takes about 6 to 7 minutes. I always remove the broccoli when it has reached bright green color. It is still crisp but not crunchy. Good luck, there is an art to getting just right.

i don't know about steaming or boiling...i use a microwave, i rinse the broccoli and then put it in a bowl, fill it with a little bit of water, and then cover it tightly with saran wrap and put in the microwave for like 1 minute or a little longer, and it comes out tender. when i do it, it seems to come out the same as if I were to do it over a stove, just less time. u get the steam effect too! ppl won't know the difference when u serve it to them. LOL.

Tells you on the package. I like it tender crispy instead of boiled to mush so I go about 5 mins and stick it if it is soft enough but not too soft, I take it out and eat away. Broccoli is best raw however.

I would NEVER boil broccoli !! That would turn it to MUSH !!
I prefer to steam it for about 5 minutes over lemon-water. I also like it sauted with olive oil and crushed red-pepper for about 5-8 minutes.
Broccoli doesn't need to be boiled... serve raw or just warmed through !!

When I boil brocolli I boil it till there's a tiny bit of green in the water, not too crispy and not too mushy. :) It's usually about 5 - 8 minutes if you actually waited for the water to boil.
I like steaming it better, but alas, I don't have a steamer. :(

As has been said already, don't boil them ! The time I like to steam my broccoli is also about 6-8 minutes. I recommend getting one of those metal little steamers (abt 5.00 here in the states) that fit into a saucepan or lay flat for a dutch oven pan or fry pan to use for larger quantities or for things like asparagus. The little steamers look like a folding 'lotus' flower ..kind of. You don't need to spend alot of money--but boy they are worth it. You can store it flat or folded up. I actually keep mine in the saucepan that I steam my things in...I use it that much! Happy steaming!

I never boil broccoli. I stir-fry it in a little olive oil, with garlic. After it has cooked a little bit, I add some soy sauce mixed with water, to finish steaming it.
