growing up my parents never did NOT hit me and my brother. it never got out of hand but my dad sometimes would hit me SO hard he'd leave black bruises on me (but I was younger than 18) anyway last night my dad and i got into an arguement and he literally picks me up and drags me upstairs (we had company) and then threatens to "slap the ****" out of me. I kept reminding him he wasn't my "abusive husband" to be doing that **** and that I was an adult. I love my parents but my dad is on a crazy power trip

In the eyes of the law it would most certainly be considered an assault.

Yes it would be considered assault. But, you then have to know the reason why they did it. No, its never right to hit anyone, I am not saying it is but when it comes to family issues you have to think that the parents are only trying to teach their children the right thing. For instance if they are doing drugs and the parent asks if they are doing them and they say no, then later they find drugs in their bedroom and they are living with the parents then this is a bigger issue. Because the child may think, hey its no big deal but not know that the parents can get their house taken away if they are found in their home by the authorities. Then yes this would lead to stress and stressful situations and may cause the outburst. Again I am not condoning this and saying it is right because it is never right to hit another person but I could see the stress level build up to this in this example if this is what had happened.
So you have to wonder what the child did to get the parent so worked up that they would want to hit the child.

seeing that your an adult, it would be better if you moved out.. 2 press charges over one incident, will live with you the rest of your life.. because they will take your dad, 2 jail.. and it's not a nice place 2 be.. and it will stay on his record the rest of his life.. you would hurt your mom, if you follow through on your thinking.. sometimes we all need 2 sit down and count our blessings.. you want 2 know about abuse, read "the child called it " then read "the lost boy" and " a man named Dave".. true story and writen by Dave Pelzer, himself.. you need time 2 let the anger subside.. don't call the police.. everything will be ok..

You could call in the law but think carefully before doing so, you should sit down have a good heart to heart, and let your dad know, that is not appropriate. you could also move out, but just remeber, pressing charges on your dad could haunt you and the rest of the family for the rest of their lives!! its family work it out!

If you call the law - it is simple assault with your word against theirs. If you let it go and tell them the consequesces if it ever happens again - they will get the point that you are an adult and will not tolerate this stuff any more.

why are you such a Bad listner and end up in argument??
Trust me dear the parents are only people in this whole universe who have unconditional love for you , everyone else... they have a motive. You ought to listen to them coz they elder , experinced and they do it for you for free.
They changed your diaper, you didnt asked for it.
Now you think coz your Dad wants to take care of you and keep you away from trouble......and for this whole reason he deserves a jail.....then be my guest and by law you can. But will you be able to live with it???

It is assault, and in many states, it is domestic assault as the parties involved are related by blood.

Give them a blue ribbon. I do not think you out grow having respect for your parents and if the adult?child deserved it sure why not. I would pounce mine if they needed it and both of them are much larger and stronger than I am.
