I am not a partypooper but when you have a young child trying to get to sleep and can't for the noise you feel like wringing their necks whoever are setting them off late.

Bonfire Night seems to last for a month and it has to stop. I think fireworks should be banned from sale to the general public and everyone should attend the public displays available. Why do we still have this stupid 'celebration' anyway? It has no relevance to modern Britain and indeed could be seen as divisive in our society as it is a memory of ancient sectarianism within our country. Bonfire Night has a completely different connotation in Northern Ireland for example, whereas in England it is just seen as a jolly night out with a few sparklers. Not to mention the fact that we are burning effigies of a human being on a pyre. What a hideous end burning to death was and yet here we are in this day and age exposing our children to this symbol of our past brutality. We even encourage them to earn money from making these effigies before they are tossed on the fires. If we must have a mid winter festival I think we should review what it should be about and think of a more positive reason to celebrate than this ancient story of treachery, torture, state sponsored brutality and sectarian violence. Diwali might be a better idea for instance. At least it would reflect our multi cultural modern day country better and could lead to greater understanding and appreciation for our fellow citizens.

yes, definitely, I find them irritating, in fact it is now nearly 11:30pm and I can still hear fireworks where I am, which I thought would be illegal given that you can call out the police when neighbours make too much noise between the hours of 11pm and 7am as it is antisocial to make noise! I think fireworks should only be allowed on the 5th november because its irritating having them going off every night of the week leading up to Bonfire night!

In Illinois fireworks are illegal anyway. Not that its stops people from going to Indiana to buy them. Cops don't enforce it much here tho. Always makes me laugh whenI hear on the news that some Bozo blew his arm- finger - toe off.
The only fireworks should be at a city sponsored event.

AND they can't do those before around 10 pm anyway- so it's dark enough to ejoy the beauty.

Supposed to be clamping down on them this year, yet there's more than ever being set off. It's 2:05 am and some idiots are still setting them off. It sounds like bombs being dropped around here. Ban them, it's mostly the adults who buy them for their own use anyway.

No they should not be banned. Bonfires and fireworks at this time of year are a tradition. I have a young child and she is asleep and has been since 8.30. And, yes there are fireworks going off round here.

Your child is young now but in a few years time they will be attending these same firework parties and not wanting them to end. Just use earmuffs until then or sing to him/ her it takes their mind off any other sound honest..

Young children managed to sleep through the Blitz!
Fireworks aren't around all year, it's only a few times a year during Diwali, bonfire night and New Year. Live and let live. I hate little kids in restaurants making noise, but I don't go around suggesting they should be banned!!!

I completely understand what you are saying. Most cities have rules that ban fireworks inside the city limits, and if you live in the city limits, you can dial 911 and report it. Please do this because they can start fires, which is the reason they are banned in city limits. Yes, I think is it wrong and should be banned after 9 pm unless they are done under city supervision during a Holiday like the 4th of July.
