A fence 6 feet tall runs parallel to a tall building at a distance of 4 feet from the building. What is the length of the shortest ladder that will reach from the ground over the fence to the wall of the building?

i got 14.15 ft. by assuming that the shortest ladder is one that runs at the 45 degree angle thus forming a right triangle with the fence and a right triangle with the wall.

it will be equal to 10*sqrt(2)=14.14. This is because the ladder makes an angle of 45 degrees with the wall and the fence and applying Pythagoras hypotheses we arrive at the above number.

There has to be a formula but no matter its length, it wouldn't be safe to climb.
