A few months ago, someone (a scientist, I think) came up with the answer (well, it's a theory, but it makes sense):

It's the egg.

The animal that gave birth to the egg where there was a chicken probably looked like a chicken, but wasn't one. Changes happen slowly, and they happen when the baby is still unborn, when it's still in the mother's womb (it works for every single being). So, something happened in the womb of the being that was not quite a chicken. The changes took place in the womb - the egg. The guy also explained something about what takes place in an egg, but I can't remember what he said, as I'm terrible in biology.

personally, i think the chicken had to have come first. maybe it wasnt the chicken inside the egg that came first, but how are you going to have a baby chick if you dont have a mother chicken for it? in that respect, the chicken always comes first, because it's there before the egg could possibly be created. and of course before you had that chicken and egg, there was another chicken, and so on and so forth...

The chicken, because god created it, he wouldn't have created just an egg, because if it hatched it would have needed warmth from it's parents, so the chicken comes first , mates and has the egg.

The egg. The chicken evolved from some other creature that lays eggs.

The chicken. God created animals, He did not place the unborn on the earth.
