I've had cats who did that. My current kitten likes to dip his paws into the water and then touch my other cat's back to tease him. I think cats are probably creative and look for ways to have fun like us humans..

Yeah mine does that from time to time only they like to put the little plastic pieces I take off the milk jug in there. I have no idea why they do that...
One thing that seems to be a hit with my cats is when I leave an a cardboard box in the kitchen...they play peek a boo in it and have a blast plus it is much cheaper than a cat jungle gym!

My dear friends cat puts all the toy mice in her water dish. One time we couldn't any of the five so she bought more. The maintenance man went over to change the filter for the central a/c and found all the mice stuffed in the closet door. He had a good laugh after it scared the bejeggers out of him. He thought he found a family of decomposing mice. My friend and I laughed hysterically.

My cats don't, but I know people whose cats enjoy it quite much. It's very, very normal. I'm never surprised hen I go to one of my friend's houses and find a small foil ball afloat in the water dish, or a catnip mouse in the food.

Sounds cute and cats do strange things, I have one that as soon as she sees a fresh bowl of water, she has to splash in it with one paw until about half the water in on the floor

I don't think so.. Because my cat is always behaved and doesn't play with his food. Try teaching your cat to eat without any distractions like toys on his surroundings... =)

my sisters cat used to put her "baby"(fuzzy ball) in the food and water dish. After awhile she would take it out and lick it clean. Once when she lost her "baby" she meow pitifully and after looking and calling cried real tears. We bought her another "baby" and tried to fool her but she knew. She didn't eat slept little and cried! Finally less than a week later while watering the plants we found it. She didn't let it out of her sight for weeks.
