I'm a film major, today what are the major arguments to choose film over video. I know it's not cost, does any one ever think it will be?

Honestly, there is very little reason to choose film over digital video. Yes... film has a 'warmer' look to it... but you can also get pretty much the same look using filters in many editing software suites.

I suppose one could argue the tradition argument. If that is your thing... you can say that the pioneers of moving pictures used film and that it has always been that way. Plus, despite the costs, it is a functional media. You can even shoot on film and scan it into a computer to edit it using Final Cut or Avid. Not as convient as miniDV or DV tape, but it is an option. Or you can do the old fashioned rubber cement and scissors on the film table thing. Some people I went to college with prefered that because you could 'feel' the work iin your hands as you put it together.

If its your bag, those are some arguments.

As for me, I got my hands on Adobe Premiere and never looked back. Yes, I can edit real film and do A/B tape editing... but I dont know why I would want to. I cant get the same level of perfection.....

To each their own.
