i'm going to hawaii over christmas and i want to buy a camcorder, but don't know which brand to buy and i don't want to spend over $300 on it.

I have a Canon myself but I got to say Sony is the way to go for consumer grade camcorder.

well it depends on what you're after, in the UK, a pretty good Sanyo one costs 200 GBP and for me this is perfect, but if you're just after the best for DVD, mini DV or Hi/Digital 8 Sony is the way to go.
But if i were you id lash out on the JVC HDD cacorders.
