I have heard that a good indication as to the eventual height a child will grow to is double their height when they are two,is there any truth in this or is it an old wives tale ?
We have a two year little girl who is 3' tall,if this ratio is true she will soon be a big girl 6' !

Snap! My 2 year old daughter has just had her latest development check and her height was also 3 ft! People ofter mistake her for being much older than she is!

I also used to be tall as a child like my daughter up until my teens but then i slowed right down and ended up an average 5'7 so there is hope for them both!

If all else fails and they both end up 6ft you never know they could end up friends lol

I think this is a very rough estimate. My brother was always very small. At my wedding he was 15 but looked as young and was as tall as my then 8 year old nephew! However at 18 he suddenly shot up. So there is no way at two you could have doubled his height to what he is now. And my nephew was average at two, but now at 14 he is already over 6ft.
So it must be an average, rough estimate.

According to the red book you get when you have your baby it is a calculation based on the heights of the parents. It is some complex calculation but has nothing to do with the child's height at 2.
There is a computer program to do it for you at babyworld, link below.

I'm really not thinkin so.

At two, a lot of kids grow to within a fairly average range (there's not usually huge differences in height for two-year-olds, but when they're in their twenties, you can have up to a foot or more differences). They haven't had time to have those 5-inches-over-the-summer growth spurts.

When I was little, I was the tallest of my sisters and most of my friends. Now, everyone else towers over me. Go figure.

A doctor can predict her height accurately. My proof being when I was about 5 the doctor said I would grow up to be 5'11" (tall for a girl obviously) and he was right, down to the inch, the git. I hate being tall!

actually there is a number of factors such as both parent's height, the child's weight and height and so on. when my son was born he was 21 inches and i remember the doctor saying " we got a 6 footer here" and he is almost 4 and is 4 feet tall! (scary i know). here is a good website to predict a child's height ( keep in mind its all in fun...not 100% accurate)

It is just an estimate. It can vary a bit. How tall are the mother and father of the child? If you are both tall, she could very well be 6'tall.

My Dr. actually goes by this. He says my oldest son wil be between 5'11" and 6' and my daughter will be 5'4". He has also said that my youngest boy will be about 5'10". Judging by my oldest son I think he's right. He is 8 and up to my chest and I am 5'8". My daughter has always been tiny so that makes sense too. My baby is just normal so that also makes sense.

Yes I have heard this.

My son was 3ft at 2 yrs. He grew to be 6ft 2"

My daughter was 2ft 4" we were worried she'd be 4ft 8"! But she's 5ft 5"!

So the answer is, it may give a guide but totally wouldn't rely on it!

I'd heard it was 18 months for a girl and 2yrs for a boy. My lads are 6' 4" and 6'3" and it's been pretty accurate
