Depends on your history.
Usually something from the cillin family is given. Amoxicillin is generally given in 500mg tablets, 2 times per day.
Sometimes if the infection is bad enough or if you have a long history of throat infections, an injection of penicillin may be given at the time of your doctor visit.
If you are allergic to the cillins, such as myself, you will likely be given something from the mycin family (Clindamycin, erythromycin).

Penicillin, or another antibiotic of the penicllin group such as ampicillin or amoxicillin. If one is allergic to penicillin, one can take erythromycin.
