I have been trying to remember where to go in Windows 98 SE and Windows XP ( on two different computers ) in order to stop certain applications from starting up and making my computer run slower than if these applications didn't start everytime Windows opens up. Can anyone help with some answers ?
I would greatly appreciate it.

Not sure on Win 98 SE (which by the way is no longer supported by Microsoft) but on Win XP: Start -> run -> type "msconfig" without the quotes -> Click the startup tab at the top -> review this entire list. BE VERY CAREFUL!! Uncheck the programs that you do not want to run. If you aren't sure, google search the name of the file or leave it checked for the time being. -> When you are done, click OK and then restart your pc.

2 ways...

win 98 and XP both have a start up folder... remove the programs from the startup folder...done...

or start up the computer... right click on the icons that pop up and disable them from booting up on start

another way (for xp anyways) is to get a program called tuneup utlities 2006 it has a program that finds items that come on during startup and allowes you to disable them...
tuneup utlities 2006 has a 30 day free trial so once you are done you can remove it or leave it to try out the other functions which are hella nice...

good luck

Go to the link below ( PC Magazine) and download Startup Cop its a great utility. You can turn on and off programs that start up when your PC does. It's easy to use and best of all it is FREE.

false. for example if i wanted to sell a product back in the days, i could spread a rumour exaggerating it's effects, and then i could pay people to spread it (who are smart because they're doing it to earn money), and then people who don't know it believe it because many people say it (that's not an idiot if you're unaware of the true magnitude)

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
