Bible is a collection of the religious literature of the Hebrews. They are in two parts-- those written in B.C. and A.D.

Testament means agreement. God made an agreement with the people of Israel. When Christianity deviated from Judaism, they claimed that because Israel proved dishonest by not keeping that agreement, God had to make a new agreement with a new people -- the Christian church.

Thus the books in the Old Testament is the Bible of Judaism. Christians added the books about Jesus Christ to that as a second part (new testament), and made it their Bible.

Old testament is before the messiah and new testament is after the arrival of the messiah and also that alot of the rules of the old testaments was abolished like some of the 10 commendments such as the "sabbath", and the punishment that dealt with stoning people to death, eye for an eye... all of those were abolished to make things easier for us because the old testament was too hard to follow (i'm no saying that no one can) and to talk about Jesus, John the baptist and some important people in the bible.

Hello, first the word testment and covenant is the same word, the new testament is new because when Jesus died on the cross and that temple vail was torn the services that the services pointed to that pointed to Christ the second member of the Godhead, The Lamb of God type met anti-type, the old testment pointed to the cross, the new testment points back to it, when Moses came down from the mountian of God the people of God said in Deut 5 when the people made an agreement or covenant that they would do what God said but of course they did not do it, so God sent Jesus Christ so as to give His life and His power so we can IN HIS POWER live to a new life and have A new heart, hay free bible lessons www.itiswritten.com God bless

The word testament is a legal document describing a person's intent. You may have heard the phrase "Last Will and Testament" - someone's wishes after they die.

When you have a testament something has died. In the Old Testament, the Jewish sacrificial system slaughtered animals for the sins of the people. (A sin is an offense against God or against the people around us - like hating them or cursing them or stealing from them) But the blood of animals cannot take away hatred or lust or jealousy in someone's heart. They needed to sacrifice a lamb or a pair of birds without blemish - absoulutely perfect! God did this to fortell to the Jewish people what he was going to do - when he was going to send his sinless(perfect, without blemish) Son Jesus to die for the sins of the world.

In the New Testament the one who died was Jesus when he was crucified on the cross. Since he was the perfect "lamb of God" - his blood is pure enough to cleanse anyone who asks this of him. He can change your life and make you a new person inside. That was God's will and testament - that after Jesus's death, a new path of life would be open to the human race! :)

The Old Testament is the history between the time God created the heavens and earth to the time just before the coming of Jesus. It contains the lineage and works of the prophets.
The New Testament deals with the birth of Jesus, follows his life, his teachings, his death and resurrection, and the prophecy of his triumphant return as King of Kings.

That's a human invention to accommodate the predictions of the coming Messiah; and the fulfillment of those predictions.

Remove those two pages that say, "Old Testament" and "New Testament" from your Bible. They are window dressing AND NOT NEEDED.

To reiterate, they are there for convenience. The Bible is ONE COMPLETE SET OF 66 BOOKS. On second thought, don't remove them : they are there for convenience!!

God bless. I checked your profile and am trying to give you an honest answer (not a combative one).

It would be explained easier if they were the New Covenant and the Old Covenant. The new is with Jesus the old with the law. Study the bible more and the understanding will come to you. There are laws in the old that no-longer apply today, but you can see where Christ took the place of the law that passed.
