I recently purchased a car with a salvage title. This is my first car, and I'm in deep enough that it wouldn't make sense to get rid of it at this point. I would like to get collision insurance on it if possible. Really, there are a couple questions here:

*NOTE: I live in Ohio. I'm not sure the answer to this question will be the same in all states.

Can I have a car with a salvage title retitled with a clean title through some sort of govermnent inspection? If so, how would I go about this?

Is there any way I can get collision insurance for my car? Will insurance rates be higher for me?

Anything you can tell me will be much appreciated!

I would believe that most states are the same but don't know, i'm speaking from california. There is nothing wrong with a salvaged tiltle it's intention is to put the buyer on notice that it has had significant damage-totaled. Now what this means is that a car with a salvaged title will generally not be as valuable, buyers would prefer a car with a clear title. My insurance company, the largest in the state and the u.s. has no problem insuring salvaged vehicles but keep in mind if that car is stollen it is the value of a salvaged vehicle your intitled too. Rates aren't higher you pay the same rates but in a sense they are higher since in the event of a total loss you'll get less. As to the question can you get retitled not in california.

I might suggest one to try this internet site where you can compare rates from the best companies: http://PROTECTIONQUOTES.NET/index.html?src=2YA;_ylv=3?qid=1006030906717

Not sure about getting a clean title but collision insurance on salvaged title.....good luck.If it has a salvage title most companies won't think of it as a good risk and not cover it.A salvaged title means it has had enough damage that it would cost more to fix it then it's worth and to just put it in a junk yard. There may be a company out there that would, but I don't know of one.
I live in Ohio as well.
