that you would find a combination lock and the combination code be your birthdate? I did just that. It is a 3 wheel combination like the ones on a briefcase. I started from 000 and did every combination until i got to 812 and about died when it opened because my b-day is august 12. so what are the odds of that happening to anyone else?

There are a thousand different combinations, 000 through 999. So, there is 1 chance in 1000 of it being your birthday.
However, that's just the straight odds. In fact, most such briefcases have combinations that can be set. If the person before you set it to his birthday, which is common, the odds would be 1 chance in 300 of it being your birthday, since only 300 of the dates can be represented by three digits. (301 if you include 229)

If everyone had a lock like that it woud be fairly common but since not many people it is kind of surprising.
