I'm making a gumbo which calls for "fire water" the fire water says to include 1 cup of white wine vinegar but i dont have any and dont wanna get up to buy it either!!

Is regular distilled vinegar substitutable? If so, do I use the same amout (1 cup)?

Thanks for any answers, I'm in the process of cooking right now!!

You won't get the same flavor but you can use it. I'd recommend using a 3/4 cup distilled plus 1/4 cup water since white wine vinegar has less acidity. That's assuming the distilled you have is standard 5%. If you've got a stronger distilled on hand you would need to dilute appropriately (like 1/2cup of 10%).
