You hit it on the head my dear.
Forgiveness is definitely the greatest gift of all.
Not many people have that gift to forgive and forget.
It's not easy but I always try to forgive others; forgetting however is tough for me.

No, the greatest gift that God has ever given us is the gift of salvation that can be acquired by accepting Jesus as your savior, and inviting Him into your heart and life. Though this we have eternal life with God in His kingdom.

The problem with mortal man and forgiving and forgetting, is that man is not capable of doing both, but God is. When God forgives us of our sins, they are erased as if they never happened. But when man forgives, it will always be brought up in the future again and again, and again. That is the difference between mortal man and being the Almighty God, He keeps His promises, while man can only try.

The greatest gift we could hope to receive is His forgiveness and Salvation. The greatest gift we possess in this world is free will in that we may choose to come closer or further away from Him through our thoughts, words and deeds.

Many wonderful responses. I agree it is wonderful to forgive, but to forget opens us to repeat lessons hard earned through life. The hardest thing is to forgive yourself when you sin or fail. God loves you and offers His forgiveness. So give yourself a break from time to time as well. :-)

Peace be with you,
+Michael

While that is certainly a great gift, I think the greatest gift God gave us was Jesus and the Holy Spirit who makes us more like Jesus over time so that we can receive gifts like the one that you mention.

"For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Romans 8:29-32

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23

God never said to forget. He did say to forgive, but never to forget. He says a lot of the time to the Israelites...Remember. He never wanted people to forget where they had come from. Wouldn't that defeat the whole purpose of writing down the history of Israel in the Pentatuch? If you're talking about a particular situation where someone has done you wrong and you forget...I find it very hard for someone to forget someone who has done them wrong, but in time, able to forgive.

I know Jesus preached forgiveness, but did he ever actually tell people to forget? I don't think he did. I have a lot of trouble forgetting. If he did, I hope he gave some instructions.
