Be honest with them up front about what you do. It is very possible to have a very good relationship while active duty. You don't have to ovoid it! Understand that the other person has a right to know what you do and how difficult it is to be involved with some one that is active duty. It is just like some one that is not in the military.....you just have the find the right person!

Be realistic with your expectations. Depending on branch of service and job you may be deployed an awful lot and if you get involved with someone around where you are stationed keep in mind that you could PCS at anytime and have to leave the other behind. Make sure you find someone who understands the life you have to live being active duty.

If you find someone that you really love and that really loves you, it won't matter if you're active duty or retired... being a military girlfriend/fiancee/wife is hard and if you find someone willing to deal with that just to be with you.. she's a catch. Just as long as she's not some foreign person trying to gain citizenship or something crazy like that!!!

i agree with tinamarie being active is hard almost to be in a relationship. especially if you in the combat arms position, infantry/mp/arty/etc. Not to metion the support element medics/supply/etc. My advice is depends on your job and unit that will hold most of the outcome the rest is on your selective choice and her patience and understanding.

get involved in activities that you enjoy, but that include non-military personnel. I met my boyfriend thru a running club while he was in Army SF and we only dated about 4 months before he got deployed. i waited for him, and then we moved in together when he got back to the states =)
