Im almost finished school and have been acepted into university (Wits) to study a BA or a BSC. I also applied for Medicine - but i doubt if they will say yes to that.
Any way I have no idea what i want to study. nothing seems to appeal to me. Occasionally i think i want to do something, but almost garrenteed i wont think its so grand in a week.

I have done a few apptitude tests but they all sucked, and im actually getting a bit scared. Do you have any idea of what i schould do, or how i could come to a decision??

PS. If i get Average marks in school, do you think its such so bad if i decide to do modeling - it kinda appeals because i dont have to study so much (even though everyone says i have a very mathematical mind)

I didn't know for sure what to graduate in for my undergrad until halfway through my sophomore year. I think it's perfectly normal, and you have time to decide, just take the basic required classes to begin with. I found that the aptitude tests didn't tell me much. Instead, I just either sat in or took classes that interested me, and then, based on how much I liked it, used that to decide what to do.

It's not a bad thing to go into modeling, but it does help to have a back-up plan. And although you may not have to study much, modeling is a very demanding line of work.

Well, whilst if I was in your situation I'd be freaking out, I don't think you are abnormal by any means.

There are several paths or choices you could take. One is pick subjects at random. Let 'fate' decide. You never know although you risk picking a random subject that you cant stand. It could be the best thing you've ever done though.

Another thing you could do is pick something based on your pre-exisitng hobbies. For example, if you are into music and play the trombone, do a course to do with music. If you are an avid reader, English. If you enjoy a related hobby, then you are more likely to enjoy and succed at your course.

The opposite path to this is to pick something completely new and different. When I was choosing my A Level subjects, I only chose Psychology because it was something completely different to my other subjects and I loved it.

Another thing you could do is go where the money is. Pick a subject that you know could make you rich. Sure, you might hate it, but at least you gain (part-time anyway) financial security which cannot be a bad thing.

The last piece of advice is that you could look at ALL of your possible options and then, narrow them down by deciding what you *know* you don't want to do, things that you might be interested in a little, or things that you feel you really want to study. If you are indecisive that might be hard but its completely up to you.

It is a shame in our society that you are supposed to know what you want to be, by the time you reach kindergarten!

You do not have to decide exactly what you want today. My daughter is a college sophmore and isn't sure yet. I will tell you what I told her:

The first couple of years of college you can work on the required general education subjects. This experience allows you to explore a variety of possibilities. It is possible that you will stumble into something you really like and find your niche. You can also declare a major, and it is not written in stone. Majors can be changed to something else if you discover a new area that you love.

With an aptitude for math, you can do anything in the math, science, engineering, or computer fields, as well as teaching math. In fact, there are many fields available to you.

I suggest you go to college, but relax and enjoy the experience, rather than choose a definite career path right away. In the end, you should find something you love, because once out in the world, you will be doing it 40+ hrs a week for the rest of your life.

Unless you look like a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model don't rely on a modeling career because pretty girls are a dime a dozen...... Youth fades quickly too.

You're so young - so what if you're undecided as to what you want to do - put college first. Your first year are basic courses anyway - you have plenty of time to decide, change your mind, etc.

Education is very important - don't pass it up if you have the money, means and intelligence to get into college!!!!

Yes you are normal to wonder what it is you need to do.. You are young so you need to find out now. Do not do like so many of us did and wait until you are 50. Take my advice and seek God on this issue. He created you and so you will need His help. Life is not about how much money you can make for yourself. Go to publish america.com and get the book called "FINALLY! The Amazing Secret About Life that very few know." It will answer alot of your questions. You need wisdom. I wasted a lot of years because I did not have this advice. People can not tell you what you were created to be. Only God knows. Most people are not pleasing God so how can they tell you how. One thing is for sure, God knew what you would be before He created you. You are better off doing what you like to do. What is it that you like to do now? Your spirit wants God to control you but your flesh is your enemy and wants to be in control. Dare to be different and let your spirit rule. What is it in this world that you wish you could correct? What is it that touches your heart? That will be the direction in which you need to go. Get that little book.
