Well, size is relative isn't it... you're height, bone structure, etc. all contribute to what makes you look like you...
Just for clarification; I am assuming you're talking about a UK 8 (which is a US 4). I'm just under 5'8 and in my 20s I was a 6-8--I wasn't skinny, but very healthy and fit. Now, I am 44 and a 10 (US size 6). I'm not as fit simply because I've "gotten lazy" in my old age--but I'm still fine with myself size-wise, because happiness is what matters. I think you know what you look like and you would know of you were too thin.
Truth is most women are size 12 and bigger... that doesn't mean they are fat, no more than being an 8 makes someone skinny... there's just too many factors--be happy with who you are and how you look! Life's too short to worry about clothes size!!

I think most people say 8 is skinny because of the growing epidemic of obesity in America. There are so many people out there who are 2 or even 3 times your size! I know how you feel, so many people say a 6 (that's me) is like, anorexic, but I am NOT that skinny. I think it depends on the person, on the look, etc. Anyways, don't worry about your size. It's just a number. What matters is that you feel good, both about your inward apperance and outward appearance. And hey! Women are supposed to have curves. It's what makes us...sexy, I guess.

Wait until you're 40 with 2 kids. You certainly won't be a size 8 then. I wasn't skinny when I was a size 8-I'm only 5ft 2-but now I can just about squeeze into a 12. Some people shouldn't be a size 8 though, and they do look too thin. It depends on your overall proportions. I think I'll go back on my diet on Monday, after trying to find something to wear last night. make the most of it hon, and just think yourself lucky! :)

I know exactly what you mean - I'm a size 6 and sick of being told I look anorexic! Also, vanity sizing means that all clothes are actually one or two sizes bigger than the label states and so everything is masses too big, how unfair! Plus, being 5'11" makes it impossible to get clothes because the only places that do extra long lengths generally start from a 10, 8 if you're lucky.
You can't call a large woman fat, but you can call a slim woman an 'anorexic b*itch' - charming.

as they say, it's all about your actual bone size. gyms, fitness instructors or personal trainers can measure your wrist and tell you whether your weight is appropriate for your frame. so if you are a small size 8, that's the way you were made! i think the world is so concerned over weight after seeing all the anorexic celebrities. i'm a size 11 and if i lost a little weight i am only capable of being a larger size 9. just because of my curves as well as my bone structure. but i actually like my body!

I would love to be a size 8 again. It has been a few years. We say you are skinny because we so desperately want to be that size again!! It represents something I can no longer obtain, but wish I could! It is envy speaking. In my mind size 8 is "perfect". It doesn't mean you have no curves.

Yeah, this is something I find seriously annoying.
People are either jealous of size 6/8 women, or they "disapprove" of them and roll their eyes saying things lie "what is the world coming to, women that size are a bad role model for children with low self-esteem, etc."
It really annoys me if someone says to me "Do you even EAT?!", because I can't help being small. They wouldn't say "How many pies do YOU eat?!" to a fat person so why is it acceptable for them to say that to us, especially when the same people can later be found talking about how "big is better" and that it's better to be "curvy" (i.e FAT...)
Also it's really difficult to find clothes if you're petite... I'm a size 6 - I'm short and skinny and I can't put on weight if I try, and it's really hard finding clothes to fit.

I don't think people (women especially) should get hung up on number or sizes. It is how healthy you are! Besides all the different clothing manufactures vary. They may all be an "8" but fit differently. I can wear anything from a 5 to a 10. It just depends on who made it!
Celebrate your curves! I do!

it's nothing do with the green eyed monster. it's the media. in the media they put out photo's of size 8 and under. the people in these photo's look ill.there are people like yourself who are not skin and bone, just like size 14/16 who are curve and not fat.like myself not an inch fat. really toned and curve but 14/16 in the UK is classed as fat.which is a real pain in the ***. people are not ignorant when they look at you or me .just problem with their eyes. if they cannot see the difference from skin and bone /toned and curvy. then that's their problem.enjoy your body.
