everything in moderation is good, make sure you go to a reputable gym - many now have an instructor who can help devise a program for you. So he will know what you should do. But always remember start of small and work up dont kill yourself on the first day. I fractured my pelvis when i was 16 after pulling the musles in my thigh at the gym but i didnt use the machine properly. But i went straight back. Just watch yourself and get some advice from an instructor and i'm not talking personal trainer like popstar have have fun!!1

Heavy weight lifting at a young age may be bad for you, but exercising in general is good for people at any age no matter how young. The key is not to overdo it. Sure, go ahead and join that gym! Swim laps, run laps, do aerobic, yoga, pilates classes, lift some weights, it is not going to hurt you one bit! The younger you start the easier it will be to maintain as you age!
And don't forget to take a natural vitamin made from whole foods that the body can digest and don't take synthetic, man made vitamins that the body cannot assimilate. Nutrients are important when exercising or anytime! Stay away from the junk food!

There's a difference between working out and exercising when you're young. But at 17, you should be fine. And no, I don't think at that age is too young to join a gym, but I could be wrong.

I think what your thinking of is that weight training at a young age whilst your still growing can be bad for you. But simple toning exercises will not harm you at all, and joining the gym now would be a great thing to do,as it will become part of your life as you get older and you wont struggle like the rest of us!!!

You are not too young to exercise but working out at a gym may not be the best thing for you right now.

The the best thing you can so for your thighs is walking. I was told to walk when I was younger and it trimmed my thighs down really well. Try to walk about 40 minutes a day. Just regular walking outside is best. For some reason exercising outside burns more calories than indoor workouts.

Heard from who / whom ? Non-sense ! Sitting in front of the TV and stuffing your face is bad for you ! And you don't need to join a gym to lose weight. Get a bike and go riding. At 17 you can go jogging...Go to the library and see if they have a book on exercises. Also watch how much junk food you eat, as well as sweets and sodas.

If you're under 15, lifting weights WILL stunt your growth.
If not, go to the gym and ask what machines are best to target those areas, then spot reduce the fat off of that area. - If that is the only problem area.

If you are under 15, stop worrying about how fat your thighs are ! You're a kid and no one cares. You're too young for boys and your parents should've told you that already !

You probably cannot join a gym because a minor is not legally able to sign contracts. Try the YMCA. They have gyms, the monthly fee is way cheaper than a gym and they have people there to help you out with a routine or regime.

You are never too young to practice sports! In the gym where I go you can find 12-year-old children as well as 70-years-old women or men! There are people of every age!
It's not true that you are too young to practice sports, people who do agonistic sports start when they are very small!
