Huh? I think you've misunderstood criticism with insult. If something untrue is being said about Islam, Muslims do get angry. Like the Prophet Muhammad being a terrorist, who wouldn't be angry with that? Even Christians, being true Christians, should be angry when anybody slanders a great man of God.
But there are a lot of discussions where Muslims and non-Muslims get together and criticize and discuss about religion. Criticism and discussions are OK, insult and lies aren't.

Because the founder of Islam could not accept criticism. If you made a critical assessment or posed a critical question, you were beheaded. Of course they will say they only do not accept criticism against their God or their prophet but how is that any better? Why would anyone think that expression of hostility to those who criticize your beliefs make their religion attractive? That's like the salesman who suddenly gets rude with you when you do not see the value in his product. If there really was any value to Islam the adherents would not feel they had to resort to violence to ensure the survival of Islam. Why is there nothing inherently attractive about Islam? I find it hilarious that large populations of Muslims around the world are Muslim only because the alternative is execution!

First of all i'd like to say that islam encourouges us to ask questions and not blindly follow something without any proof. but by this question if your suggessting that we as muslims should accept that we are a backward religion or that its all right to mock our religion and associate it with terrorism, and it is an opperssive religion to women then this cant be accepted.
many people will critisise islam without having any knowledge of what it is or blindly follow what is said by way of the media. If people really want to know why women wear the veil go to a muslim women and ask her why she wears it! if you want to know what is the position of islam on terrorism look in the quran.
islam is The religion that has been perfected by the creator of the heavens and the earth and all that is in between.
In the quran Allah the most high states "this day those who disbelieve have given up all hope of your religion;so fear them not, but fear me. This day i have perfected your relion and completed my favour upon you, and have chosen for you islam as your religion" so on this basis how can islam accept critisim when the most high, Allah, chose this for a religion for us to follow

Why should any religion accept criticism, is it not time that we lived and let live, then perhaps we may all live in harmony.

Because they do not know the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. Whatever you say about them, they make a big deal out of any comment and twist it so that they sound like the victims. There didtorted view of religion is escalating and we, in a Christian country should have the freedom of speech, to defend our faith and educate them in the true Christian Faith.
This caan only be done by receiving Christ as there Saviour and let the Holy Spirit control their lives in which they will learn through the Holy Spirit the truth about God, Jesus and Christianity as well as being able to discern the true faith in Christ from false religious doctrines
