1 cup milk
1/4 tsp salt
1 friend with starter
Take flour, milk and salt to visit friend with starter. Add each to
friends' starter, mixing well. Divide starter in half, returning one
part to friend, and taking other half home with you. Place your part
in your starter bowl. You now have a Friendship Bread Starter.
FRIENDSHIP BREAD INSTRUCTIONS
Keep at room temperatureUse a glass container.Do not use
a metal spoon (use a wooden one)Do not refrigerate. Use
only plain (non-rising) flour.
Day 1 The day you get your starter, donothing
Day 2 Stir with a wooden spoon
Day 3 Stir with a wooden spoon
Day 4 Stir with a wooden spoon
Day 5 Add 1 cup flour,1 cup sugar, 1 cup milkand stir
Day 6 Stir with a wooden spoon
Day 7 Stir with a wooden spoon
Day 8 Stir with a wooden spoon
Day 9 Stir with a wooden spoon
Day 10Add 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, 1cup milk and stir.
Get three glass containers and put one cup of mixture in
each container,Give a copy of these instructions and acup
of starter to 3 friends. To remaining batch add2/3 cup
oil, 3 eggs, 1 tsp vanilla, 2 cups flour, 1 cup sugar, 1tsp
cinnamon, 1 and 1/4 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp baking soda,
and 1/2 tsp salt. Pour into 2 well greased and sugared loaf
pans, or1 bundtpan. Top with anything you likesuch as,
sliced apples, dried or candied fruit, nuts, coconut, etc.
or leaveplain Bake at 350 degrees F for 40 to 50 minutes.
(Check after 30 minutes.) COOL 10 MINUTES BEFORE REMOVING
FROM PAN. Sliceand serve.

Amish Friendship Cake
DO NOT USE ANY METAL UTENSILS.
Day 1 Pour one pint of starter into gallon glass jug, add one large can of sliced peaches and its juice, cut each peach into 4 pieces. ADD 2 1/2 CUPS SUGAR AND STIR EVERY DAY FOR TEN DAYS.
Cover jar with saucer and leave sitting at room temperature. DO NOT COVER TIGHT OR REFRIGERATE.
Day 10 Add one 16 oz can of chunk pineapple and it juice, cut each chunk in half, add 2 1/2 cups of sugar and STIR EVERY DAY FOR 10 DAYS. Your color has changed and your fruit will foam when stirred.
Day 20 Add 2 small jars of maraschino cherries. Slice each cherry in half.
The cherries will your juice back its pinkish color. Add 2 1/2 cups of sugar and STIR EVERY DAY FOR 10 DAYS.
Day 31 You are ready to bake and will need the following ingredients for three cakes.
Step 1 You need 3 golden Cake mixes, 3 boxes of vanilla instant pudding, 1 dozen eggs, 2 cups Wesson oil, 3 cups raisins, walnuts, pecans and coconut.
3 of each of the nuts.
Step 2 Drain fruit into large bowl. Pour juice into 3 pint jars. These are new starters, one for you and two for friends, plus a copy of this recipe.
Cake must be started within 3 days after receiving the starter.
Step 3 Preheat oven to 300 degrees (275 degrees if gas). Grease and flour the pans. You will need three pans that fit into the oven at the same time.
Bake for 1 hour and 25 minutes.
Step 4 For one cake, pour one box of cake mix, one box of pudding, 4 eggs, 2/3 cups of oil and 1 1/2 cup drained fruit into large bowl and stir with a wooden spoon only. DO NOT USE ELECTRIC MIXER. Add 1 cup each of raisins, pecans, walnuts and coconut.
DO THIS FOR EACH CAKE
DO NOT USE METAL UTENSILS OF ANY KIND.
