Not always. Sometimes you have to spank your child, but sometimes it's just not necessary.
There's a fine line between making your child respect and obey you, and child abuse.

First of all do you have any children of your own?
It may help to put things into perspective when giving advice.
Parents need to vent and ask advice sometimes to clarify certain things about their children. It is a great way to find out new info and network with people who may be going through the same things they are going through.
Spanking will not always solve anything because sometimes you may be angry and you should step away for a few moments to clear your conscience before you do this.
Showing your child love and affection and "teaching" them will work wonders over just spanking them.

My husband and I have two children - a 10 y/o girl and a 5 y/o son and, depending on the situation, we do discipline our children with love, teaching and advisement, role-modeling, and a good ol' fashioned butt whipping whenever they need it. As a result, my kids have learned to think about the consequences of negative behavior first, neither of them have ever had one of those screaming fall-out tantrums in a store, and both are very respectful, smart, intelligent, and well-mannered children who do very well in school - they know that they would catch holy ?%$#! if the school called me to report any bad behavior. I get rave compliments on them all the time by many of the people we encounter daily. Don't get it twisted, though - some of you might say that our kids are afraid of us but that is definitely not the case. We have a very loving family-oriented home and, on the contrary, our kids favor spending quality family time most of the time.
My husband and I were both raised in much the same way but our whippings were worse. However, we are very thankful that our parents and grandparents whipped our butts and we know exactly why they did it. It wasn't for abuse - they wanted us to be righteous in life and we are. Same goes for our kids..........
The best advice I can give is to start early. I spanked their butts when they were very young so they learned early. I hardly ever have to discipline them with whippings today.

i think of it would remember on the youngster. If the lack of ability of a bedtime interfered with the youngster's social, academic, or behavioral interplay, or their wellness, then it would be a topic. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, if the youngsters are not cranky and irritable, have become a minimum of 6-8 hours of sleep, and tutor no ill-wellness outcomes, then i'd see no reason to no longer enable them to not sleep. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, in the event that they have been very youthful, i'd advise an grownup being unsleeping with them (or a series trend of, say, staring at television for some hours till they nod off) being in place... yet ideally an unsleeping grownup. analyze have shown that childrens bodies unquestionably require greater sleep to be healthy than do the bodies/minds of pre-adolescents. so some distance as long-term is going, i've got self belief sleep types can get replaced particularly easily (with the aid of organic human tendencies), and so i does no longer subject approximately that. i will in all probability have a mattress time for my infants sometime, yet I think of it is going to likely be critically later than maximum mothers and fathers... in all probability 10 or eleven, finding on the youngster.

I don't think whooping a child would solve the discipline problems. I suggest to try and take away some of the things the child like doing or playing with.

I think it works on some children but not others, I'm saying this from experience. I have 4 other siblings and my dad always gave us a "lickin" when we were young, and it worked on me, I rarely did anything bad, just to avoid a lickin' not because they hurt, but b/c I found them humiliating... i was a very proud child, my brother on the other hand, did bad s-hit regardless of the consequences.

"He who spareth the rod hateth his son."
Proverbs
I have three children and raised them with corporal punishment. None has a criminal record, none are disrespectful, all are hard working and well-liked. Yes, I set an example and taught as well as disciplined.
Those who say DON'T spank are the ones i doubt have children.
Even the vaunted Dr. Spock said he was wrong after he had some of his own.

No, whooping a child's butt only teaches the child that in order to "solve" problems it is okay to beat on someone. So later on when they have problems in school the kid resorts to taking a gun to school because they were taught earlier on that violence solves all problems.
