Hairspray is alcohol based. It has to be in order for the spray to dry quickly. It can be a little drying, but nothing a good conditioner won't fix. I can't live without hairspray :) I wouldn't be concerned about it being damaging at all.

Some hairsprays are alchohol-based and can dry your hair out. Look for hairsprays or spritzes that say "light hold" or "moisturizing". Read the back of the cans. Or go to a beauty supply store and ask them.

It doesn't damage it, but it does cause major build up which could cause damage in the long run, to fix the problem use a good cleansing shampoo like paul mitchells shampoo 3 once a week if you use it more than that you could dry out your hair

They are not exactly damaging, but they cause build up which can make hair dull and lifeless if hair is not washed properly. Use a clarifying shampoo once a week.

Hair spray washes out of your hair. It doesn't hurt to use a clarifying shampoo at least once a week regardless of what products you use in your hair.
Just stay away from Rave and especially AquaNet! They contain a lot of lacquer. Stay away from REALLY cheap hair products all together.
