Yes, absolutely. I have been making beef stew for 25 years, have used a slow cooker only once and got poor results.

so which you're unlikely to apply any seasonings? I supply you with a warning now, it's going to be a flat stew. besides, regularly people coat the pink meat chunks in flour then brown on the range. It somewhat won't paintings without oil, so do no longer even hardship attempting. It merely provides greater style to the pink meat and facilitates the chunks carry at the same time somewhat greater. The flour does make the stew thicker, yet I somewhat have a feeling merely tossing in some flour might finally end up leaving you with flour lumps. Ew. If it desires to be thickened later i might merely upload the two some instant potato flakes or a pair tablespoons of cornstarch dissolved in merely a sprint chilly water. previous that, you do no longer desire a recipe. merely chop up onions, carrots, celery, and potatoes, throw them interior the crock pot with the pink meat, and upload pink meat inventory/broth. do no longer conceal it with inventory. If the point of the liquid is an inch or so under something of each and every little thing your stew would be lots thicker and greater "stew-y", somewhat than being pink meat soup. you're gonna get a lot of juices from the vegetables and from the pink meat, and each little thing will cook dinner merely effective. that's extremely the sole element I consistently do once I make pink meat stew.

Beef stew was being made long before there was electricity. Or gas for that matter. Of course you can. On the stove top or in the oven.

Just put a lid on the pot and simmer the stew over low heat. There are many recipes out there.

any pot will do as long as you can get the amount you want to prepare...if you have a roasting pan for your oven you can make it in the oven on a temp of 250 and it will cook slow and get just as tender as if you cooked it in a slow cooker...just brown your meat before adding them to the roaster then the veggies and liquid and cover it and it will take about 3 to 4 hrs....

Your large pot will work just fine. I make mine on top of the stove all the time. I put everything in the pot and let it simmer all day - yummy.
