I always thought purgatory was a place between heaven and hell
that Catholics would pray people out of .
The lost souls around us are not of God .(Yet)

There is no lost souls around us. Purgatory is somewhere else. The things people mistake for ghosts are evil spirits trying to deceive people into thinking there is a chance that they can become a ghost instead of going to Hell.

The existence of lost souls is what gave rise to the
concept of puragatory, or limbo. It's the false teaching that
one can pay ones way out of purgatory, that some in the church made up to get money, that made some go to the exrteme that they don't think it exists at all.

if you mean ghosts .. then they arent lost souls
they are only memory .. residual energy left over
however i do not believe in purgatory for similar reasons though
as i communicate with spirit and if i do this .. then i am pretty sure we pass directly to spirit realms ( heaven if you wish )

There aren't. When you die you are in the presence of the Lord, whether or not you are a Christian. Once there, God will separate out those who are His and those who are not.
