My father had 5 slip disks! Everyday he would be in pain but luckly he could control it. To make it feel better he would go into the hot tub every night. Maybe this will help.

Wow, I'm very sorry to hear this... I know how much an MRI costs because my wife needed one and insurance refused to pay... Some people who don't have the love of a dog or cat don't realize that they become an integral part of our families... Our last dog needed to be taken to the VET ER at 3:00am because he was suffering from seizures... the bill was a whopping $1800 for the immediate care and he ended up dying the next day ! I had no problem writing the check... it was the only thing to do. We all loved our dog. I would make my decision based on the dog's ability to recover fully or the quality of life he/she will have after all the treatments ! If there is no ability to guarantee the dog will make it, the decision is even harder... a dog living it's life in pain is no life at all ! God Bless you and I know whatever decision you make will be the right one !

Please suggest to consult a competent Physical Therapist in your area. Also, consider relaxation with gentle yoga, Reiki etc... You may also check into finding a Satyananda Yoga Centre (from Bihar School of Yoga) for a competent Yoga Therapist who may be able to offer some techniques...
How bad is the disc bulge? Often times, the presence of bulging discs does not necessarily mean severe pain. There is always a stress component, in this case, it could be her depressive tendency.
Hope this helps...

As a physician, you should be able to recognize the signs of depression. She needs treatment for her back pain and for her depression.
Has she seen a pain management specialist? Sometimes, epidural steroid injections will help. If her life is really that bad, maybe she should see another neurosurgeon for a second opinion. From your description, it sounds like it may be time for a discectomy.

When you say back pain, do you mean upper back? I think you mean the cervical spine. She should use ice packs, and then alternate with heating pads. Also, a good excersize is to put both arms out to the sides, palms facing up, then, push the shoulder blades back, while looking straight ahead, and rotate the elbows so that they are pointing forward. Do all of this simultaneously, while breathing deep and slow. It helps me a lot.

sounds like a case for the chiropractor and a counselor. but chiropractor first. and just try to give each other a break, help each other out around the house and with the kids; you're both tired and over-worked.
