Many Christians DO NOT acknowledge that Catholicism is a division of Christianity but in fact it is. There once was a time when Catholics practiced the oneness of God.... later adding the trinity to its doctrine created a separation in the church. Out of that division came Protestant, Episcopal, Lutheran, Methodist, Pentecostal, Apostolic, Seventh Day Adventist, Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormon etc...All are Christian nonetheless.

To say, "I'm Christian" is a unbiased, unprejudiced title; or general and safe to say.

However, to say, "I am Catholic" is like saying United Kingdom is NOT a part of Europe because they want to be different from the rest of Europe, and they think they are better than everybody else. They look like the oddball in the group (out-casted).

Christianity has dissected into so many entities over the past centuries, one would have to be a true religious scholar in order to define all the various types of Christianity.

Catholicism is a form of Christianity. They do believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. But Christianity stemmed from a secret society of presolytes during Jesus's time on earth. For fear of prosecution from the same men who created Catholicism. Both the Romans who ruled at the time of Jesus and the Hebrews as well, Constantine and Saul of Tarsus who later became Paul the author of one of the books of the New Testament. Later, became one of the largest organizations due to there missionaries and the crusades. After this some followers drifted from the beliefs of the church and were exiled, reforming, creating the protestants and the pilgrimage to a new land.

You can be Catholic and not a Christian - you can be a Baptist and not a Christian - you can be a Lutheran and not a Christian ...

A Christian is someone who has accepted the free gift of salvation through Jesus' death and resurrection - one who has repented and is cleansed and is now able to have a relationship with God.

There was a quote on here a few days ago I really liked.

Just because you are sitting in a garage does not make you a car.
Just because you are sitting in church does not make you a Christian.

Some Catholics are Christians and some are not. I could say the same about any denomination that is a Christian denomination. Some Baptists are Christians and some are not and so on! Just because one goes to a church does not make them a Christian!

Catholicism is one of the denominations of Christianity.

The Catholic church is the oldest Christian church and considers itself the one true church, but of course there are many who do not agree; Catholics are Christians, but not all Christians are Catholics.

However, some Catholics do use the words interchangeably, so I can understand why you ask.

Shane - I disagree with the way you say "sprang from" as if it was a great parent and they somehow grew out of it - they broke away from the Catholic church because of its corruption.

As everyone else has said Catholics are christians. But what everyone has wrong is that Catholism is NOT the first church. The first christian church was Orthodox. Catholic is a split from Orthodox and then the protestants from there.

The Roman Catholics were the first. Then some people in the Church began to disagree with the teachings. The first to break away became Eastern Orthodox. The second break was the Protestant Reformation. And then there are Jehovah's Witnesses.

The Catholic church is a non-Christian cult, that distorts the Word of God.

The Catholic church teaches that Mary was sinless, but God's Word says ALL have sinned.

So, the Catholic church is saying God's Word is a lie.

So who are you following, God or the Catholic church? Because any church that distorts God's Word the way the Catholic church does, is not a Christian church.

Make up your minds. You can't serve two masters.
