I just try to shake my arms out and walk around a little bit...wondering if there is something out there to try to get my muscles ready for the next set of exercises...

LOL are your arms the only thing you work out then???

For the most part I keep my rest between sets to a minimum, basically enough to catch my breath, drink a bit of water, change the weight or grab different dumbbells, etc. I do a lot of supersets too, with no rest whatsoever between exercises (rest only between the seperate supersets). If I'm totally smoked or if I'm going heavier and need a bit longer to rest between sets, say >1 minute, I will go shoot the breeze with some buddies.

And I am going to have to disagree with the comments that say to stretch. While some VERY mild, light stretching is okay, if you are actually trying to build strength & go heavier, you should NOT stretch between sets. That will actually reduce your muscles' ability to lift more weight, which is why you should NOT stretch before a workout (do warm-up sets instead), but AFTER a workout.

Stretching is good as long as it is light stretching. I dont walk around though and suggest you dont either. walking around just uses more energy and then you have less energy to use on the next set. When you complete a set you should rest, not walk around and make yourself more tired. The whole point of the time between sets is to let your body build up some more energy for the next set. so you should be resting.

Stretch the muscle group that your working that day often. It helps to tear the muscle, thus getting more from your work out. Besides that, I do the same. I move my arms around, and walk in circles.

I sometimes do jumping jacks to get my heart rate up. That makes it so I can burn a few more calories...Ill do about 20 jumping jacks between sets. I also stretch after each body part worked.
I lost alot of weight doing that and some other things...check out my before and after pic here http://www.healthandstrength.net

particular you like an afternoon without work in between once you elevate weights you're rather tearing somewhat of the muscle so which you like that day in between for it to heal. for this reason some people take steroids. they are waiting to strengthen accepted using fact the steroids help them heal quicker...which isn't the respond you will get your outcomes, supply it time
