You may be thinking of a Taize service but I do not remember banging on pews.

On Good Friday many will have a service of the last words of Christ where the church is dark except for a candle representing each of the sayings that is extinguished after each is read. Often this type of service included sound effects such as hamering to represent Christ being nailed to the cross and a loud boom as the last candle is extinguished representing the great quake and rending of the curtain in the temple when Christ said "It is finnished"

I've been to a normal Lutheran Sunday mass where they bang on the pews a bunch.

Bang on the pews??? I dunno.....

The one where it gets dark and you light a candle and pass the flame around until everyone had their candle lit? Thats the easter vigil.

There is no Catholic Mass in which participants have sex. Now, if you want, we can talk about Hieros Gammos and the Great Rite.....but those're pagan rituals, not Chistian ones.
