As we have a long stop over will it be possible to leave the airport for a few hours?

i do long stop overs all the time.....yes you can leave the airport, but be warned NOT ALL continuity flights handle your baggage to the final destination. Example would be arriving in Paris with a 5 hour stop over and you find you have to reclaim your luggage and check back in...some flights check your baggage through for you...so you would need to check this first. Yopu should also be aware that Paris airports are not in Paris and are about 45 mins away on the train, a bit like Gatwick is to London.

It should be fine as you can check your bags through and get a boarding card in Manchester for the second leg of your journey. That way you don't have to check in again or be in the airport for the 2-3 hours before your flight - having an hour there pre-take off ought to do it as they can start boarding early for transatlantic flights.


Assuming you are an EU citizen or have a visa for France then yes, jump on the shuttle bus that runs to the Opera and see a few sites / enjoy a nice meal before your onward journey.

it might not be a good thing to do
