I've never heard that effect on them. My cats love catnip, they have catnip mice that they play with. They will lay on the floor and just lick and lick where the catnip is and then chew on it, and then lick it so they can get more of the taste. Its supposed to be like 'crack' or something to them, like a drug that gets them high. So who knows, I know mine LOVE it.

Catnip can turn a usually reserved and haughty feline into a playful, drooling kitten after just a few sniffs. It's primarily the scent of catnip (not the taste) that cats react to.
The pleasure factor in catnip is the chemical compound nepetalactone, which seems to have a mildly hallucinogenic effect on cats. Nepetalactone is similar to a chemical found in the urine of female cats, and this may be why unneutered males have stronger reactions to catnip than females and neutered males. Some speculate that nepetalactone stimulates the region of a cat's brain associated with sexual behavior.
It's not just domestic house cats that have an affinity for catnip -- even lions, pumas, and leopards are said to enjoy a roll in the 'nip. But not every cat will get a catnip buzz. Kittens don't react to catnip until they are six to eight months old. And roughly 20% to 50% of all cats have no reaction to the stuff. Catnip sensitivity is genetic and may also be influenced by learning and experience.
For those hep cats that do get a kick out of the stuff, the good news is that catnip is harmless and non-addictive. So thankfully no Narcotics Anonymous meetings for Fluffy.

Cats below 3 months of age usually do no longer respond to catnip. supply catnip no extra effective than as quickly as a week or the outcomes could shrink. Cats like it eco-friendly and sparkling. Bruise it somewhat previously giving freshly minimize stems or leaves. If utilising dried catnip, shop it in a sealed container interior the refrigerator and stop to a teaspoon according to cat weekly.

Ha, I was raised with cats. We always had one, sometimes two. I am allergic to them but love them dearly. They Love Catnip. It makes them High. It won't hurt them. I grow it in the yard for the neighbors cats. (grow it in a pot outside because it "takes over") Pet stores sell it in a box (loose). Ya know those little stuffed mice toys at the store for cats? they are filled with catnip.
Fluffy is biting because it's play time! It makes them real playful.

It's an intoxicant. My cat got a catnip toy on Christmas and in an hour he was lying on the wrapping paper, clutching the toy, drooling. He even lost control of his bladder! I never gave him cat nip again. It was apparent that he couldn't handle it. Possibly a nipaholic. It's sad really.

He was playing with you. It affects your cat like a drug would do to you. He is in his own relaxing unreal world. It doesn't last long and it will not harm the cat at all. Usually relaxes them.

catnip is kitty pot. i don't give it to my cats because they growl and attack where they are normally very sweet. i recommend removing the catnip and not letting your cat have any. why give him something that changes his personality and makes him bite you?

It's short acting so after a few minutes it goes out of their system. It gives them a nice high that makes them feel super happy and silly.

They act like they're hyper or drunk or both.
Usually it lasts only as long as they have the stuff near them.
