I think it might hurt him, ask your vet. Use frontline spray, its the best flea and tick stuff there is. Its a spray that you spray on the cat, about 2 sprays per pound of body weight and it works for the entire month. If a flea jumps on them, they die, when they shed their hair, the medicine is still on it and it kills the fleas in their favorite spot. Its really good stuff, my cats use it and haven't had fleas since and it is a lot cheaper than some other flea medicines.

Flea collars are fairly ineffective to begin with and as you found out, dangerous should they be caught on the animals jaw. The drops that go down the back are better. Frontline is a very good brand. I have been using Purrscriptions with good results as well.
Please keep in mind that Hartz flea & tick drops were involved in the recall issued a few years ago and not the collars. None-the-less they can't be good for the cat to chew on.

Flea collars don't work for fleas. Don't use it if it is causing danger to your cat. The three flea preventions we recommend at our clinic are Frontline, Revolution, and Advantage. All three are topical flea preventions that last one month. They are all made to be safe and non-toxic, because they know that sometimes cats can lick it off. So apply it high up on the back of their neck to get the best results. They are all very good products and work for me every time.

If your cat has fleas you should take it to the vet for Frontline.
Hartz is one of the worst brands out there and has caused death and illnesses in many animals.
If you don't believe me just visit this site:

Sergeants Natures Gaurdian (Not reglaur Sergeants) is a very good flea product. I'm using it for my dogs. You can find it at Krogers and Wal-Mart, it is the only safe flea product you can buy at the store. Be sure to get the kind for cats though!!!!
I hope this helps.

I was horrified to hear about what had happened your cats. I have never heard of Hartz, but I have been avoiding all chemical products since I discovered that I am allergic to artificial chemicals and additives. When my new cat started to get fleas a few weeks ago, I asked a friend of mine for her advice as she is really into herbal and natural remedies. I was amazed to hear that her cats, dogs, goats etc. never get fleas, ticks and worms. She said that she gives her pets Brewers yeast every week in their food. I have started trying it now and my cat is already starting to do well on it. She also feeds her cats and dogs raw food so as to avoid all the artificial stuff that producers put in. Hope this helps to keep your remaining cat and any future friends in good health. Almost forgot to mention that I have seen her cats, and that they are very healthy looking with fantastic coats.

Flea collars are appropriate for vacuum cleaner bags and not on animals. When you vacuum any fleas or eggs you suck up will be killed in the bag.
For the cat you should use Advantage or Frontline which have been in use for ten years now and they are worth the price as they will be 100% effective on the cat.

Hi Kenia...most over the counter products are not as effective in treating fleas including Hartz. Hartiz has a class action suit against their company for distributing one of the most dangerous products on the market. Their products have killed countless animals and there are other over the counter products that have done so as well. Here's the website on the dangers of Hartz and the like: http://www.hartzvictims.org/index.php
Please consider using Frontline, Advantage, Revolution for flea prevention. You can purchase these either from your vet or from 1-800-Pet-Meds http://www.1800petmeds.com/cat.asp?LV=10

Yes, it could make him sick. Those collars are not very safe and the medicines in them have caused death and nervous disorders in cats and dogs. The safest flea meds are Revolution and Frontline.

It may or may not hurt your cat, but it will not work in eliminating the fleas. Please get a product such as Frontline. Your cat will be healthier for it. If your cat fought the first one, and now chews on the second one, that should tell you something. I know you care about your cat.
