, my boyfriend, and my other friends (even the ones who smoke cigarettes). I am 21 and want to smoke freely, but since I am the first among my family to smoke, and because my friends and my boyfriend have never seen me smoke, I am embarressed and I know I will turn red. I have made up my mind I want to smoke cigarettes freely in front of everyone, but how to I go about it. I am nervous. Please don't tell me not to smoke. I have made up my mind and I enjoy it but how to I get throught this painlessly.

Do it in front of them and tell them to accept you as you are. They will either except it or not. At least then you wont have to hide it anymore.

The problem with smoking freely in front of everyone is that everyone will be forced to inhale the smoke from your cigarettes. And those who don't smoke are not going to be very happy about it. Perhaps non-smokers can accept that you can poison yourself, even if they have to pay for a part of your healthcare bill throught their taxes. But most non-smokers will object to being poisoned themselves with your cigarette smoke.

your 21. Smoke freely as you want. You may here some shi* from your parents but you are an adult. Maybe just to show some respect with them if they don't like to see you smoke don't smoke in front of them. Your friends have nothing to say about your choice. and why are you embarrassed? It will only last a min. If your embarrassment lasts longer are you really comfortable with smoking in front of people. Do you really care what they think???..L

Friends:just smoke in front of them. Parents:Ask them after dinner or cocktails if it's OK you have a smoke on the patio or do they prefer you step to the curb? Be prepared for their concern but tell them you are respecting their rules by smoking outside and since you have decided to smoke you would appreciate they respect your wishes. You know they would prefer you not smoke, you weren't asking their permission just where they would prefer you do it since the living room is absolutely not an option. Be light not glib and they should be tolerant if not approving of it. It is not something they will approve but if you wish to be honest they will probably make accommodation. Good Luck.

Just smoke if you like. Be honest with your folks. Be prepared for concern, but also be prepared to answer the concerns. If you do smoke, you need to just let it out of the bag and deal with it.

Your 21. Your free to smoke if you choose to do so. If your parents are non-smokers, don't smoke in their home. It will be easier if your BF is a smoker, but if he isn't you can expect more trouble with him than you'll get with your parents.
