Absolutely! It is a country with over 5000 years history; it's one of the four great ancient civilizations. It also the country hosting the 2008 Olympics! China is a Kingdom with a glorious past and great potential future! Needless to say visiting the Great Wall or the Terra Cotta Warriors is a must (even if often overstated). If you are really adventurous, try visiting "the Roof of the World'- Tibet! Breath in the thin air from 14,000 ft altitude, with the on-going praying rhythm that has not changed for thousands of years behind you! If you like the more pampered tours, sail down the Yangtze River and be the witness of the Three Gorges Dam! If you are a history buff, go west to follow the Ancient Silk Road, and go deep into the mysterious Gobi desert to follow the footsteps of the ancient caravans...
If you have a chance to go to China, don't miss your once a life time call! Twenty years from now, you will be more regretful for the things you haven't done than the things you did!
I say so not only because China is my home country, but even after I have been all over the world it is truly still an amazing country to me!

A resounding YES. China is so diverse culturally and geographically that you can visit at any time of the year and you will be fascinated by the rich history, culture, traditions, and the astonishing progress accomplished in the past 20 years. I don't need to write a book about it, there are hundreds that can tell you more. I suggest you get a good travel guide (I personally use Lonely Planet and used the first China edition back in the mid-80s) to get some good background information and excellent reviews of places to go, to see, how to get there, where to stay and eat, etc. As for kids, it depends on their personality and you have to be the judge. My opinion is that it is a great place to travel with children, but you have to organize activities for them accordingly, which is never an easy task whether in China or at Niagara Falls. Some of my children would do anything, go anywhere and eat anything, while one of them is bored whatever we do or wherever we go as a family.

Please do not listen to the people who say, "Ching, ding, chong, China is cool, I can speak Chinese, see: ching ding chong." They obviously don't know what they're talking about. I'm Chinese, and I visited China summner of 2005. WE planned to stay until Aug. 3, but left early because we all got sick, it was hot, etc. I would not recommend visiting China during the summer; it was extremely hot, and we did not go anywhere. I'm not sure about the other seasons. If you have kids, I woulnd't go altogehter. I went when I was twelve and my bro was eight, and we found it really boring because we were too young and immature to appreciate. WEll, we had nothing to appreciate becasue we coulnd't go any where. A few years ago, a fifth grader had to write an essay about his trip to China. He wrote about how dirty it was there. His mom ripped it up and made him redo it. So, don't go in the summer unless u wish to stay in a hotel for a month or two or else get barbecued in the sun. Dont go with kids.

I took a two week tour about ten years ago. It included all food, bus tours, train tours, and boat tours. The hotels are very modern and built for the western tourist. It was great seeing all that you only read about, the great wall, forbidden city, and the terra cotta statues. Go if you can.

Make sure you go with a group of people (IE: Tour group, friends). If you are not going with anyone, then don't bother going. They are really bad in China. And if you go with someone, make sure you aren't the only woman.
PS: Don't drink the water. It is dirty
