Many people do not believe in spanking a child at all. There are alternative ways to discipline a child without being physical. Aside from that, spankings should stop when the child is old enough to be able to understand a logical explanation of why he/she should not be doing that particular thing.

I think right up until the child is around 8 or 9 years of age is perfectly acceptable, but I do know of mothers who have spanked kids a lot older than that.
I personally think spanking should be used throughout the early childhood years, when children are babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.

With my children, I think that when they can truly realize the concept of other punishments like having priviliges taken away, or writing sentences or short essays, then I will leave spankings for the serious things. My oldest is 5 1/2, and he understands that most of his "not so good" actions, will lead him to discipline, such as extra housework, yard work, etc. He has also learned that his " seriously- not so good" actions ,(i.e. distrupting his classmates, disrepecting adults or girls), will cause him to be punished, which is usually a spanking. I think it truly depends on the maturity level of the child. I got spankings until i was 16 y/o!
Hope this helped.

The perfect age of thirteen. That is when they think that they can fight back because they fought a few kids at school and now they think they can beat your ***. I on the other hand will not get the belt. I will kick their *** like they stole something and take them to the Metzenbalm shelter for kids. Straight down town to the county. Because if you think you are gonna whoop my but as a child you are sadly mistaken. Not in this life. You will be a ward of the state before I find my way down I-271, to marysville for murder or abuse. I feel like Bill Cosby I brought you in and I will take you out.

Now. It should have never started. Simple guidance away from the no-no ....other choices. It takes 3 seconds to act with the hand....that is simple. It takes 30 seconds to turn behavior around......Preparation is the key....make a list of the behavior actions that need guidance......then a solution...will take 30 seconds to search through memory for that solution.

When you can take away something of theirs that will affect them more than a spanking (cell phone, Ipod, car priviledges, allowance, computer time, weekend freedoms, television in their room, video games, etc).

Never, as long as they deserve one let them have it. My grandpa gave my mom a spanking when she was in her thirties for talking back to him. It could have been worse, he could have made her get a switch.

When they are 6 1/2. When they are that old they will feel like they are being treated like a baby.
