This is the argument of Luther... We do not believe we need the Pope or other agents of the Church to have a direct and personal connection with God. God, in the personage of Jesus is the great moderator...the connection between man and the Divine...through a relationship with Christ. we are able to have an intimate and personal relationship with God (though I personally feel you may connect directly with God in several ways).
Personal relations with God dissipate the ability to blame the others for one's own discretion...Personal relation with God makes one personally responsible for ones actions...this the individual must perform self-reflection more truly and deeply....
This idea is the one of the causes of the Reformation...people got tired of paying for forgiveness (indulgences).

Yes, I beleive that you can experience God directly. I had an experience once when I went to this church. The priest asked people to come up to the altar for a blessing. When he placed his hands on me, I started talking in a language that noone understood. People were shocked except for the priest who said I spoke in tongue. That was the holy spirit and the Lord giving a message but noone had the gift to translate... I have always had a special gift of knowing things when things were going to happen and I see things too. It is all a gift from the Lord and I don't know why I have been chosen...

yes we have direct contact with God that is why I can not understand why catholics are taught to confess to a priest when God is with them. Emanuel = God is with us

yet if someone experiences god in a way that differs from what their book says, it's somehow "wrong."
