When I went through Basic Training the phones were available to us for a block of time on Sundays...I believe 10 AM till 2 PM. There were a lot of factors involved in using the telephone though. The biggest factor was that there were three pay phones and about 250 people that wanted to use them...and generally no limit on time you were allowed to talk...or how many calls you could make. So, if he isn't big on standing in long lines all day....then he may just be opting not to call. During basic training free time...I liked to sleep and/or just rest.

Some people get pulled for extra duty and aren't able to use the phones during that time.

Some people lose phone priviledges by screwing something up that week.

Many factors.

One thing they don't hold back is the US Mail. Send postcards and letters. He is given time to write back...even short notes.

Basic training is extremely busy. Almost every moment is scheduled. When they are given free time to make calls there are a lot of people all trying to use the phone at the same time. Cell phones are not allowed during basic so the only way they can call is using pay phone. Be patient and he will be able to talk to you more frequently soon.

Dont worry wether its basic training, AIT/tech-school, and or deployed no news is good news. Meaning as long as no other personnel is knocking or calling your household he's fine. Basic training means they got him running around all day. Not sure how it is in the AF , at least in the army they had us about 90% of the time. And free time if available depending on mass punishment could be spent waiting in lines or catch up on sleep or writing letters. So dont worry let him complete his training , Support him by writing to him and sending him care packages.

It will probably be a few weeks yet. They don't usually get to call untill they are at least half way through and that is if their company ( not sure if they call it a company in the air force ) is doing well and behaving.

It depends on his sgts my fiance is in infantry basic and the sgts get to choose when they use the phones they dont have to let them. But when they get a pass they usually get to get to a phone but hopefully your fiance gets a calling card cause my fiance racked up our phone bill with collect call when he got there thank god there is only 3 wks untill he comes home. Write him as much as possible it will boost his spirits.

I would try writing letters. He is really busy, and they probably won't let him talk on the phone as he wishes. But if you write him a letter, he can read it and it can comfort him when he's missing you.
