Not really. Kids with ADHD crave sugar and their parents think that the sugar causes the hyperactivity. If you took away all the sugar in the world, there would still be hyperactive kids. I have ADD and crave sugar but I am not hyperactive.

Everything is fine in moderation, but these days kids are eating so much sugar and I believe yes, it does make them temporarily hyperactive. Kids are still developing and I don't think they can handle a lot of sugar. The school I went to discouraged sugar consumption and man, it made a huge difference. You could see it in the kids who ate healthily and the kids who had juice instead of water and fruit roll-ups instead of veggies. Also, I've worked in a summer camp with young kids 3 summers in a row and lunch is right before naptime. If they have sugar, they will have severe difficulty going to sleep. It makes them go bonkers!

No, sugar and candy isn't what makes kids hyper. People tend to think it's the sugar that is making kids crazy, when in fact they're already excited before they get the sugar or candy. Kids tend to be eating candy when they are really excited already(ex: when they are at a birthday party.) So, basically kids are hyperactive simply because they're excited, not because they ate sugar.

Do a little test. Using your self as the test subject, do not eat for 3 to 4 hours then sit quietly and eat a candy bar. Concentrate on how your hart feels, does it race?, do you find it hard to concentrate? I noticed this after not eating sugar for 6 months and then having some! Try it you will be surprised.
