Because there is no reason to believe that he is real. Why don't you believe in unicorns or Apollo the Sun God, or reports of UFO abductions?
I have never heard a good reason to believe in God, I have never heard a voice in my head that sounded like God, I have never been to a religious service that moved me one inch.
And, I can't read a single page of the Bible without finding problem after problem after problem that nobody has a good answer for.
Why would I believe in God????
:)

God is an illogical concept. Basically we think, reason, research, and come to the conclusion that God is a man-made thing. God as he is described in the bible has contradicting traits such as perfect. However, if he is all good evil wouldn't possibly exist in this universe. If he is everywhere and everything how could anything be less than perfect? Also, religion has grew along with the cultures and advancements in cultures.
When we had no explanation of how the ocean tides receded we made up a God. When we didn't understand the sun we made up a sun God. Once we began to understand more things we didn't need so many gods and made one God the cause of everything. Then as science took over, we needed God to explain less and less. The bible was formed by man, a group of religious leaders decided what went into the bible and what didn't. If it was inspired by God then why would anything be left out or decided upon if it was true or not? There are so many reasons why I don't believe in God that I came across as a young adolescent.
Evolution is a great example of proof that the bible is false. The fossil records are too strong to deny the existence of evolution and evolving species over time. The bible stories are absurd, Noah's ark, the tower of babel. The time lines don't add up and other things don't make sense. God's word changes from the old testament to the new. In the old testament he was vengeful and unforgiving, then in the new testament he is preceded by Jesus that changes all the old rules and laws of the old testament. This symbolizes that Christianity merely stole the firm foundation set down by the Jews and created their own religion that went in a totally different direction.
Too many reasons exist for my disbelief in God. Mostly though, in a nutshell, it is logic and knowledge. I honestly can say that I know too much now to ever believe in a biblical God.
However, a supernatural being may possibly exist somewhere in some unknown form beyond my comprehension. However, the God of the bible is made comprehensible so it defeats itself with such contradictory traits and meanings.

I've studied many religions, they have many of the same stories and morals, some told in different ways, no matter how old the religion is. Its a fact that religions adopt ideas from other or old religions in order to make it easier for people to convert to a new way of thinking. I wish not to get caught up in an everlasting battle of which religion is right when the ideas behind them are as old as dirt, which is what the first religions worshipped anyway. The Earth, the sun, the moon, has even been said to be the origional trinity, so who's right?

Philosophically, I'd just repeat many of the above answers. On a personal level, it simply isn't real for me - I don't believe and going through the motions or declarations to the contrary will not make it true.

There is no evidence for such a being.
Why don't you believe in Zeus, Apollo, Thor, or Ra?
I just believe in one less god then you do.

I dont preach atheism, I actually grew up catholic. To me, the sciences I hyave learned throughout my public school education has sort of made me sketpical. It seems illogical a lot of the times that we could have all been created through two people way back when. I do not preach this at all, but I also have seen so much unrest in our world, and in my own family. Deaths of children with christians claiming "it was their time" why have they even been brought onto this earth if they were going to die and suffer such a horrible death? It's terrible to think about, but when your faith is dwindling based on your own experiences, it's hard not to question, would a god allow this to all happen? Would he sit there and watch everyone dying terrible deaths? It cant be everyone's "time" when they die, it doesnt seem fair. Who gets chosen to live, and why? Who gets chosen to be killed and why did they die such an undignifying death? It's a person's worst nightmare when something so terrible happens to them, how are they supposed to find comfort in something that doesnt show that he's there with something? so many people suffer, this world is so messed up, and it seems so hard to believe that a god, heavenly father would allow that. I have gone through experiences where I have lost my faith, and once it's gone, it isnt something you necessarily want to get back. I cant stand to see so many children being raped, killed, murdered. If you were god, would you allow that to happen? To me, having grown up in a catholic family, of course I grew up believing! But by confirmation at 12, it was gone. I couldnt bear to hear stories of children and people dying the way they were with no "miracles" or no second chance. innocent people being hunted down and then their killers being left to lead life with the dead getting no justice. It's just so hard to look at it and see a world beyond the hellish one we live in. I hope this answers your question, and I am sorry if it offends anyone. Again I dont preach, and I find it comforting that so many people are able to still have faith and grow together in church communities, etc. A lot of people need that god for protection, and feel the comfort and his presence, but I lost that. I find it very touching that you have been able to capture that faith and not let it go, because once yu lose hope you sometimes feel the will of your life being sucked out of you when you dont have that, and if you can believe in that, I find it terrific for you, and Im glad you have been able to stick with it and hold it out despite faith-draining situations. I tred for years after lsing it to get it back, but I fell deeper and deeper into nonbelief and hurt that I decided that I couldnt go on lying to myself. I am a very sweet, compassionate person though, so not having a god in my life has nopt changed that, I am not hostile towards anyone, i dont wish harmful things on anyone, I just want this world to come to terms with it's differences and just settle down. It's hard growing up in a world with so many problems.

In as much as I was not around to see how everything came into being (and neither were you),I say, "I don't know ..... YET!" To assume that some god, my less than intellectual ancestors made up, instantaneously farted the universe into being, is absurd
