I thought that was only a term for the type of scoring being kept.

scoring used to be that you wouldn't get a point if you weren't serving, so you would want to shut out the side and get the ball back so you could score.

It is an old team, back when scoring was different, but it also means that you want the serve back - thus preventing the other team from scoring.

they yell that so they can prevent the other team from scoring and therefore getting a sideout. a sideout is when the serving team does not succesfully convert their serve into a point and the ball is given to the opposing team

They don't have the serve on their side so they say -Side out so that they break the serve and get back points.

you yell sideout when the other team is serving. it means get the ball back so your team is serving

i didnt know what it ment either for the longest time! Its basically saying the ball back (so they can serve)

side out means you want the ball back

Sideout means that the other team doesn't get their serve over.
There's a cheer for it to...
S-I...S-I-D...S-I-D-E-O-U-T sideout...clap,clap...(Your team name)...clap,clap.
I've screwed up because I was laughing at how they were saying it.
