Plenty of vitamin C, with rose hips if possible, this also helps decrease the length of the cold. Also, plenty of fluids if you already have a cold.

Eat healthy, exercise, keep your hands away from your face as much as possible, wash your hands, get lots of Vitamin C all that stufff

well i once heard 50% of the time through the air and 50% touching something or someone that is infected.

avoid sick people. (but don't become like michael jackson)
avoid kids (their schools are germ factories)
wash hands, avoiding touching nose,mouth maybe?
