The point is simple. There are to answers I could find.
(1) Fulfilled prophecy is a line of evidence.
Scores of Hebrew Scripture prophecies describe various aspects of the Messiah’s life course. Jezus knew that, That was what he came to earth for.
John 19:28-30:
when Jesus knew that by now all things had been accomplished, in order that the scripture might be accomplished he said: “I am thirsty.” 29 A vessel was sitting there full of sour wine. Therefore they put a sponge full of the sour wine upon a hyssop [stalk] and brought it to his mouth. 30 When, now, he had received the sour wine, Jesus said: “It has been accomplished!” and, bowing his head, he delivered up [his] spirit.
(2) Endurance of Fysicle torture and Mental state.
Jezus last hour was at hand and He and the disciples were together when Jezus went to pray to his father.
After praying at length, Jesus returns and finds the three apostles sleeping. Addressing Peter, he says: “Could you men not so much as watch one hour with me? Keep on the watch and pray continually, that you may not enter into temptation.” Acknowledging, however, the stress they have been under and the lateness of the hour, he says: “The spirit, of course, is eager, but the flesh is weak.”
Jesus then goes off a second time and requests that God remove from him “this cup,” that is, Jehovah’s assigned portion, or will, for him. When he returns, he again finds the three sleeping when they should have been praying that they not enter into temptation. When Jesus speaks to them, they do not know what to say in reply.
Finally, a third time, Jesus goes away, about the distance of a stone’s throw, and on bended knees, with strong outcries and tears, he prays: “Father, if you wish, remove this cup from me.” Jesus keenly feels severe pains because of the reproach that his death as a criminal will bring on his Father’s name. Why, to be charged as a blasphemer—one who curses God—is almost too much to bear!
Nevertheless, Jesus continues to pray: “Not what I want, but what you want.” Jesus obediently submits his will to God’s. At this, an angel from heaven appears and strengthens him with some encouraging words. Likely, the angel tells Jesus that he has his Father’s smile of approval.
Here lies the point of my answer:
Yet, what a weight is on Jesus’ shoulders! His own eternal life and that of the whole human race hangs in the balance. The emotional stress is enormous. So Jesus continues praying more earnestly, and his sweat becomes as drops of blood as it falls to the ground. ---“Although this is a very rare phenomenon, bloody sweat . . . may occur in highly emotional states.”---
Afterward, Jesus returns for a third time to his apostles, and once more finds them sleeping. They are exhausted from sheer grief. “At such a time as this you are sleeping and taking your rest!” he exclaims. “It is enough! The hour has come! Look! The Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Get up, let us go. Look! My betrayer has drawn near.”
While he is yet speaking, Judas Iscariot approaches, accompanied by a large crowd carrying torches and lamps and weapons.
Conclusion...
Jesus had (acording prophecies) to go through tortures paines and stress on the body. Inorder to keep complete controle on your mind you have to be young and strong.

Ponder this for a minute: Jesus was as human as all of us, and yet He lived a perfect, sinless life because He was in constant communion with the Father in Heaven, Almighty God.
Because He was sinless, there was no reason for Him to physically die. He would be alive and incorruptible to this very day we are sitting here looking at Yahoo!Answers.
Then, however, all the prophecies about Him going obediently to death on a cross for the remission of the sins of the world would not be fulfilled. I don't even want to think about the ramifications of such a thing.
No, it is far better that Jesus fulfilled the perfect, pleasing will of God, even though His Heavenly Father had to turn away from Him on the Cross at Calvary when all the sin of the world, past, present and future, was poured out upon Him.
Every single one of us deserved to be on that Cross, and yet Jesus did it all in our place. "It is finished." Awesome!

Just like the unblemished lamb that was sacrificed in the physical temple, Jesus is the Lamb of God who passed through the heavenly temple.
Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. (Heb 9:22)
The OT said he was to be "pierced for our sins", (Is 53:5). Crucifiction was that fulfillment. Man did murder Jesus. God knew he would. And used that breaking of His command to pay for the sins of the world.
What an awesome God!

Hi Eric, good question, I will do my best to answer it for you.
first you have to remember that Jesus is true God and man, and in His divinity is omnipotent and knew before His incarnation what The consequences would be by preaching His messsge of the Truth.
He knew beforehand how this journey would ultimately lead to the cross and accepted that this was to be the price of our redemption.
He told His Apostles that He would be betrayed and turned over to the Pagans who would put Him to death, and they could not understand this either, Peter tried to prevent this by telling Jesus not to go to Jerusalem, and Jesus rebuked him.
from the beginning this was a set course for Jesus as He knew the minds and hearts of the temple authorities, and that they would resist His message of the Father`s kingdom and who Jesus was(Messiah) and kill him for it.
remember that mans will had determined the course of the crucifixion and it is not sensible to read our own thoughts into what may have been, it was as it was.

The horror of Jesus' death was fulfillment of all of the Mosaic law where by and inocent paid the price for the guilty there by freeing the guilty from judgement.
I do not like it either but I have to trust that tis was the best way since it was the way God chose.

i dont think jesus diesd from old age. but what those ppl did to Him, i would have to say it was murder. but they were probably going "He shall pay for blasfemy!" or however u spell that. trust me, those guys REALLY needed prayer then. but God doesnt want murder, u know how back then how they would always kill ppl they accused of witch craft, well that was murder how they burned them and all. but they couldnt see that i guess.
but anywho, what they did to jesus is probably what they would call punishing for his bad deeds or whatever. but im not saying jesus did anyhting wrong, he had beent he only perfect person to ever set foot on hthis planet, well before adam and all,

Because it was a sacrifice, that form of God choosing to die for us. Dying of old age wouldn't have been a sacrifice.
One work that I read suggested that it was suicide, as a part of God could not have been killed without choosing to be killed. He allowed himself to go through all of that torture and death because of his love for humanity.
And the sacrifice part of it comes from the Old Testament, as it is a law written in the Bible itself about exactly what animals you need to sacrifice to atone for what sin. Jesus became the ultimate sacrifice, making all others unnecessary.

Jesus died on the cross because he was dying for what was true, the influence in Christianity wouldn't be as strong if he just died on his own.

your talking about very old moralistic fairy tales, that describe a type of martyrdom, get yourself aset of beliefs that don't use out of date anecdotal reassurances and blackmail to make you think you have faith.spirituality comes from within too.
