The electric is the only thing my husband uses. He's had two or three different types over the years, but his favorite is the Braun Syncro that I got him for Christmas 2 yrs ago. It has the cleaning/charging base that helps keep the blades in really good condition by running the auto cleaning cycle every so often.
It's a little more expensive than some of the other ones, but is well worth it. He uses it for his daily face shaving, and for his head... and it's even great for those days when I really don't want to drag out all the cream and razor stuff to shave my legs!

That's really a personal choice for the guy. Some men break out from shaving no matter what kind of razor they use. Also, an electric razor tends to dry out the skin so if you buy him one, be sure to also give him a good skin conditioner. My husband uses an electric and then follows with skin conditioner that is lightly fragranced and non-alcohol so it doesn't burn his skin. If you do buy one, buy a good one and keep the warranty. Norelco actually has places that will change batteries and do repairs.

Do you lke your bf's cheek as smooth as baby bottom? Do your bf shave until his skin feel like hair never grow there? If so, it's not worth the time. Only thing I will use to shave is Gillette Mach 3 or Mach 3 Turbo.
If you want to get a good shaving gift for him, try buy some upscale shaving cream and brush. You still can buy soapy one that have to be mixed with water and apply by brush. This would be a really awesome gift in my opinion.

it depends on the preference of the guy really. have someone get his oppinion.
i would say most guys wouldn't mind having a good quality razor around (cheap ones are really not any qood. braun's shavers are my preference) even if they use disposable shavers most of the time.

I have not been happy with the ones I have purchased. It is possible that I have not used them correctly. But, I couldn't get past the breaking in period where I had a great deal of razor burn.
I have had a Remmington foil and a Norelco triple.
