I am 29 years old will be 30 in February; I have a bad back and messed up feet. I want to be around to see my grandkids and great grandkids. I am not real huge but I have been big all my life. I have lost about 20 pounds over the last year, but I have slacked off and not stuck to it lately and gained some weight back. With my back and feet being messed up I having trouble sticking to my workout. This procedure is not permanent and no cutting my insides up like the others.

Have you seen a doctor?

Lap Bands are a major surgery, regardless of what they tell you. It's a drastic response to weight loss.

How overweight are you? Bad backs and messed up feet could come from many different ailments, not just weight loss.

While I believe that weight loss should come from your activity and eating moderation, you need to discuss this with your doctor. If you're going to have something THIS major done, you need to see a doctor and a psychologist, especially if this isn't going to be suggested by a doctor.

Weight loss surgery-like gastric bypass /lap band surgery / stomach stapling and gastrectomy have become very common and very safe now. My cousin got her Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in India. She has lost more than 65 lbs in 5 months and is very happy with the results. The price for obesity surgery is very less in India. My cousin just paid 25% of the cost she was quoted in America. She got her surgery from a company called Forerunners Healthcare.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines. I have read a lot of their patient stories also. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as bariatric surgery and weight loss surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that your Obesity surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

you shoudl really consult a doctor. I know the procedure is simmiliar to the gastric bypass exept its temporary. ...welll then that would mean you would have that extra skin when you loose the weight. I have a friend that got the gastric bypass and now isn't any better because she needs plastic surgery for all the loose skin....thats not cheap!....good luck.....in the mean time you should eat healthy in moderation and walk a little.

another thing to consider is whether your insurance will cover it...some will only cover the open 'roux en y' procedure...the lap band is better cuz they dont have to open you up. be sure to do your research on insurance and the doc doing it...find out how many they have done and their success rate.
