can anybody tell me how to get this off i have windows xp i think is something to do with the media player

That is probably your screen saver. You can change your screen saver by:
1. right click on desktop (without selecting anything on desktop) and selecting properties.
2. Click on screen savers tab.
3. Screen saver that you have now might be 3d Flying objects. Change that to something else.
4. You can play around a bit by changing the settings of screen saver selected.
5. To preview the screen saver click preview. You get out of preview by moving mouse or pressing any key on keyboard.
6. Now click to accept the changes.

Not sure what you mean by a 4 cube box, but try right clicking on it and see if there is a "delete" option.

MAYBE GET A NEW MONITOR, Just Joking, Have you tried CTRL-ALT-DELETE ?
Maybe you can fix the problem from there. or possibly the lower right-hand corner of the monitor might have an icon you can click on to shut it down... GL
